It’s incredibly hot and humid here this week. Anyone who envies our lives at the farm should think twice when it involves working in these conditions; conditions where your shirt feels like a 10 pound wet rag and you have an extra salty lunch every day because the sweat is a never-ending stream down your face. Yeah, gross. I know. It’s not always pretty posies around here!
Ironically, a midst all this sweltering soggy heat, one of the most clean and cool flowers blooms. Every July the white lisianthus give me visual refreshment. The hotter it gets, the perkier they are. I could stare at them for hours. They’re just the crispest white, like freshly laundered linen sheets. Sigh. Cool clean sheets… yep, making that my happy place right now.
I had to add some of our darling currant tomatoes and some baby poke weed for texture in that mounded pillow of cool white. This week’s massive wedding is including heaps of these ingredients too plus 100 pounds of eggplant, give or take. Stay tuned!
What’s blooming in your backyard this week? Feel free to add a link to your own Backyard Bouquets in the comments section below. If you are on Instagram, be sure to use the hashtag #backyardbouquets to join in the fun. I’d love to see what everyone is growing and creating!
The only “rule” is that all the elements in the arrangement must be sourced locally, within a 25 mile radius. Your own backyard is a great place to start!!
LOVE this one!!

Pretty Lovely
Thanks, Jordyn!!!
Really lovely! Fresh , cool and inviting!
Hi Jennie – Love your blog & so interested in growing & foraging flowers & foliage for my creations. I especially enjoy foraging – a little less work at times than weeding my garden & just like a botanical treasure hunt… never knowing what you’ll find & challenging the old imagination… get those creative cogs turning over, you know? So much fun! Here is a link to a fall bouquet I created from foraged autumn leaves & old, dried fern. https://www.facebook.com/StradbrokeWeddings/photos/pcb.793948490637053/793948133970422/?type=1
What I love about this bouquet is that all the ingredients were dying (or dead) and yet the colours are so vibrant & alive… Oh yes, and I’m just a little covetous of the model’s shoes! Cheers, Jeannie X
