It’s mid-March. But you wouldn’t know it around here! This time most years we already have the field tilled and are busy planting. This year, there’s still a six inch thick layer of ice and snow to crunch through just to see the ground. And that ground is frozen so solid you can’t even use a pick-axe to break it up. The temperature has been dipping to the single digits at night still and barely breaking freezing during the day. All the snow and ice have made it impossible to even drive into the farm for the past several months, let alone work there. The heavy snow and ice also did damage to trees, fencing, and water pipes. Our crops are a good month behind schedule.
And the 10 day forecast is looking grim.
Needless to say, this spring is not going according to plan.
Love 'n Fresh Flowers
As such, we’ve had to scramble to reformat our From Seed to Centerpiece master class series a bit so we can actually comfortably accommodate guests at the farm and have some flowers to see and use during the classes. We’ve already coordinated with the students who were signed up to make sure everyone can still come for the new schedule. We’re ever so grateful for everyone’s flexibility and understanding that Mother Nature just isn’t playing fair this year.
The Designer’s Cutting Garden that was schedule for March has been consolidated from two days into one intensive day and moved to Sunday, June 15th. This means students who are coming to our wedding class can also easily attend the garden class so they can learn valuable information about growing their own flowers and foliages to use in their designs at home. I’m dreaming of the warm days and green vistas of June right about now!
Love 'n Fresh Flowers Farm
Additionally, the Floral Photograph: In the Field & Studio class is being re-formatted for professional photographers (rather than florists). Brooke Courtney will be developing that curriculum and announcing details on her website. The workshop will still be at the Love ‘n Fresh Flowers farm in May but registration will be through Brooke Courtney rather than Love ‘n Fresh Flowers. We’re really excited about this change as it will free us up to make some amazing, jaw-dropping designs for the photographers to shoot rather than needing to worry about the logistics so much.
The Business of Local Flowers and Weddings: From Seed to Centerpiece remain the same as planned. They’re filling up fast so book your seat today if you’re interested in joining us!
