Early August in the flower fields. . . these photos are more for my records than to make a fancy blog post. But, nonetheless, enjoy!
The bumble bees are particularly happy these days. They are lovers of many flowers, but none so much as the textural and weird heads of celosia, which are in rampant bloom right now. The bumbles like to hide in the folds of the celosia heads and sleep there at night. Waking them in the dewy cool of the morning is perhaps one of my purest joys as a flower farmer.
Smiling….all the way from Asheville. These are lovely.
LYNN!!! Catherine and I missed you so much today! The flowers miss you too. 🙂 Hope you are having fun in Asheville!
Jennie, can you share what type of hydrangea that is? It’s beautiful!
Hi Jamie! That’s Hydrangea paniulata. It’s the straight species but there are many cultivars available as well. Some are more pink. I love this hydrangea and you can hack it up every year and get tons more blooms the next. Get some!
Looks amazing, thank you for sharing.
Sooo beautiful, Jennie. And I agree about the bees. There was a sunny morning weeks back when many of the dozen or so hydrangeas along the side of the house were popping and I rejoiced at hundreds of bees taking happy advantage of them. Very happy moment!
So beautiful, great photos!
I love your blog– such inspiration!! I would love to see captions on every photo with what variety it is of each flower– I’m sure you don’t have anything else to do! I keep seeing the bees hanging out on my celosia as well. Lots of wildlife if gardens where chemicals are not used : )
Aw, thanks, Sarah! I’ll try to remember to put captions with the pictures…but, yes, I do have a few things on my plate. 🙂
I’d love to pin many of your photos on Facebook to Pinterest. (Um, those David Austin roses finally pushed me to have to ask.) Do those photos live online somewhere else that would allow me to pin them? xo
The David Austin rose photo just got added to Pinterest just for you, Kate. 🙂 That’s an Instagram image so doesn’t live anywhere else. Other photos on Facebook that were taken with my “real” camera (i.e., specific wedding album photos) will eventually get added to the website portfolio this winter when I have time. Feel free to let me know if there’s any others you’re dying to have though before I get around to it. Happy to oblige! Love seeing my work on your Pinterest boards! xoxo
