We always love designing flowers for weddings at the Horticulture Center in Philadelphia, one of our very favorite venues in this beautiful city of ours. This past weekend we deeply enjoyed being back at the Horticulture Center for Samantha and Geoff’s late March wedding, bringing the delicate beauty of spring splendor indoors to the light-filled greenhouse. The color palette was a dreamy mix of cream, white, barely-there blush, soft greens, dusty gray, and antique gold, all punctuated by rich maroon-meets-aubergine.
All the shining stars of springtime came out to play for this Horticulture Center wedding: whimsical fluttery butterfly ranunculus, bodacious Cloni ranunculus, dark-eyed anemones, double white tulips, dreamy blush pieris, antique mauve hellebores, dainty white muscari, fragrant stock, towering white Maryland-grown snapdragons, bright-faced peach poppies, and even a precious few checkered fritillaria. With lush seasonal florals like these and rich velvet linens, the already lovely space at the Horticulture Center wedding felt ultra romantic and inviting!
Some favorite design elements, large and small, of this particular Horticulture Center wedding included a modern ceremony focal of abundant floral pillars anchored in large concrete pots; a lush hanging installation over the head table that also featured Edison bulbs, and petite handmade wreaths of fresh rosemary tied with thin velvet ribbon to hold a hand-written scroll with each guest’s name on their dinner plate.
The flowers you see are all locally-grown, gathered from our farm and farms in central Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland. The dusty miller and eucalyptus are also locally-grown, but much of the other greenery was from Florida and Texas, given we are still far too early in our season here in Philadelphia in March to have much of the green stuff. Special thanks to our friends at Local Color Flowers in Baltimore for helping coordinate some special floral deliveries from growers in Maryland!
We can’t wait to see the professional photos captured by Samantha and Geoff’s photographer! But, in the meantime, we wanted to share these quick snapshots we took throughout the design process and the big day for this Horticulture Center wedding.
