It’s been a tough week. One of the hardest I’ve had in a long time. Making this week’s Backyard Bouquet was cathartic, but I’m afraid it turned out rather dark as a result. Take it for what it’s worth.
Included in the design: ninebark, cotinus, scabiosa, chocolate daucus, peacock orchids, cardoon leaves, allium, nandina, and Asian pears.
What’s blooming in your backyard this week? Feel free to add a link to your own Backyard Bouquets in the comments section below. If you are on Instagram, be sure to use the hashtag #backyardbouquets to join in the fun. I’d love to see what everyone is growing and creating!
The only “rule” is that all the elements in the arrangement must be sourced locally, within a 25 mile radius. Your own backyard is a great place to start!!
Jennie, this is amazing! I had no idea you grew orchids. This is my favorite #backyardbouquets yet.
Stephanie, “peacock orchids” is just the common name. They are actually a type of Gladiolus. I don’t grow any true orchids. So glad to know this is your favorite Backyard Bouquet yet! Thank you! 🙂
Very dark, indeed…and dramatic! Jenny, I haven’t figured out how to post pictures of my backyard bouquet’s here. Any suggestions on how I can do it?
Thanks, Lisa! You should be able to just copy and paste the URL from where your photo is posted into a comment here. I think you use Facebook, right? Click on your bouquet photo in Facebook and then copy the URL at the top of the page when the photo is open. That should do it. Unless your FB page is private, then I’m not sure if it will show up for everyone to see. Hope that helps!!

Beautiful, Hedda! Thanks for sharing!!
Dark, but with pinpoints of bright white light. Hope next week is better for you!
Thanks, Kris!! <3
Hi Jennie!
Here is mine from Lilies and Lavender’s open house this week.

They’re not actual orchids, they’re gladiolus murielae.
Yep, you’re right, Anonymouse! Peacock orchid is (one of) their common names. 🙂
But in the darkness there is always light…!! We can’t always be up and full of energy…time to reflect…that’s what this one tells me. 🙂 thanks!
Your arrangement is lovely – hope this week is better. https://www.facebook.com/FlowerLawnCustomFloralDesign?ref=hl&ref_type=bookmark
Well I love it. I think a huge part of your floral allure is the variety in your compositions, and how mood-driven they can be. Hope this week is not so tough!
Gorgeous, I love these rich colours together!
I adore the chocolate daucus, all the different shades they come in! Could I be cheeky and ask where you get your seeds? 🙂
