I work on a lot of weddings. I love that I get to make so many couples happy with the perfect flowers for their vision. But sometimes it’s really nice to bring my vision to life.

Orchestrating styled photo shoots is one of my favorite ways to flex creative muscles.

Not only do I get to dream up a theme, colors, and decor, but I also get to pull together some of the best wedding pros to help execute the whole affair. We all get to have a lot of fun together. And we get to actually eat the cake at the end! {It’s one of the ironic parts of being a wedding vendor: you’re at tons of weddings each year and very rarely get to eat a piece of wedding cake.}

For this photo shoot, I was inspired by the venue, Merion Tribute House. I had worked on a wedding there last fall, and I couldn’t quite get its imposing stone halls out of my mind. It’s really unique among the many venues I’ve worked in, and I was sure that it would be perfect for a shoot. The deep shadows, stone, and high dark wood beam ceilings reminded me of a modern day Viking lodge or an English king’s country estate. And so a Winter Hunting Lodge theme was born.

When pulling together the details, I kept telling the team to think “Downton Abbey meets Ralph Lauren” for a vintage but masculine feel. Nothing fluffy or fussy. The color scheme was gold, emerald, white, and soft pink. The addition of pheasant feathers, deer antlers, and a stuffed fox brought in the “hunt”. Foxy was quite the hit and was on loan for the day from the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education.

This shoot was designed to be a smaller vow renewal celebration rather than a big wedding. We used a real couple, Jillian and Ryan, of With Love and Embers, who are actually just about to celebrate their 5th wedding anniversary. It made the day all that more fun to have them joking and telling stories about being married rather than having the usual models who are strangers and are uncomfortable kissing for the camera.

Photography was handled once again by the best! Maria Mack never fails to amaze me. I can’t wait to see and share the professional images she captured. All the photos in this post are mine except for the one above which was taken by Christy at Papertree Studio.

The other fantastic vendors for the day were Lauren at Belovely Inc, Christy at Papertree Studio, Michael at Synergetic Sound & Lighting, and Flying Monkey Bakery. Each did an amazing job with the details!! I’m incredibly grateful for their talent!
