International Exchange

We’re at it again! Last year’s International Flower Farmer Fellowship was such a success at Love ‘n Fresh Flowers, we can’t wait to get the party rolling again!! We want to connect and collaborate with more international flower farmers. Last year we had two amazing women, Lisa and Lindsey, both from Australia, join our team for a month at a time. The exchange of knowledge and inspiration blew my mind, not to mention the kinship, and I have loved watching them both grow their businesses since they’ve been back home! You can read all about their experiences here and here. We also had one state-side Fellow, Denise from New Orleans. While this Fellowship program is geared towards international farmers, we will consider established farmers in the US who can commit to at least a month away from their own farm during the growing season (that’s a tough challenge, I know).

So here’s how it works:

  • Applicants must have an existing flower farm operation of their own and be located in another country besides the United States or in the US somewhere more than 300 miles from Philadelphia.
  • Applicants must be able to commit to 21-35 days at our farm between June 1 – October 1. We want to know you’ll be around long enough to really settle into a routine with us and learn a lot. Maybe you’re located in the Southern Hemisphere and this would make a great winter holiday abroad!
  • Applicants must be willing to work at least 35 hours a week at the farm.
  • Applicants must speak fluent English so we can communicate easily.
  • Applicants must pay for their own travel to and from Philadelphia. We will provide housing near the farm and do our best to show you around the city while you’re here.
  • Applicants will get a look at every aspect of what Love ‘n Fresh Flowers does, both farming and designing for events. This is a great opportunity for budding farmer florists.

While at the farm, you’ll be immersed in all the daily tasks of running our flower farm. See what we plant and how we plant it. See how we manage weeds and pests. See how we fertilize and irrigate to grow the highest quality flowers. See how we harvest efficiently and process the flowers. See how we run our Flower CSA and make our grocery store bouquets. See how we design for our weddings and manage delivery and set-up of events.
Of course while you’re here, you’ll be working along side us and telling us all about your own farm and how you do things there. My guess is we can learn a lot of from each other! And hopefully we’ll make some great connections for our own winter holidays in the future!!
We have three slots for this exchange. We can take one person at a time during most of the season, but can take two people at a time in July. To apply, please send an introduction letter, a link to your website/social media accounts, and pictures of yourself and your farm to info@lovenfreshflowers.com by April 1st.
Can’t wait to meet you!
